Sunny
by Jason Reynolds
View in Library Catalog
book cover

Sunny by Jason Reynolds is a realistic fiction. The book is mainly about Sunny and his life on and outside of track. Sunny was one of the best long-distance runners on the track team but didn't enjoy running anymore so he decided to try the discus instead. This book is the third book in the track series and was written as a diary. Personally, I would rate this book a 4 out of 5 because it focused more on Sunny's thoughts than what actually happened.

Swim Team by Johnnie Christmas is a graphic novel. It is about the main character, Bree, facing her fears of swimming. At first, Bree didn't even like pools and swimming. However, she starts to practice swimming after she gets into a swimming elective in school. Bree eventually joins the swim team and to the amazement of others, faces her fears. During her time in the swim team, Bree faces many difficulties from not being able to swim to fighting with teammates. But she eventually figures things out. I think that this book was a good book and was very easy to understand.

I enjoyed the little sketches, the main character nikki made and I also liked how she described all her feelings into her notebook. I felt happy that she is sharing her feelings.

"Swim Team" by Johnnie Christmas is a graphic novel about a girl named Bree who just moved to Florida. Bree is very thrilled for the first day at her new school, Enith Brigitha Middle School, but joined the only elective that fits her schedule, Swim 101. She detests swimming and even worse, everyone else can swim except her. She hates that she can't swim, and her neighbor, Ms. Etta, begins to give her swimming lessons. Surprisingly, she makes the team and she gets better each day. See what consequences she faces. Overall, this book is fun and an easy read. I didn't like graphic novels, but "Swim Team" changed my mind.

Lu

Lu by Jason Reynolds is the last book in the track series. Personally, I thought that this book was second best (after the first book, Ghost). This book was mainly about Lu and his different points of views of the track team, the coach and the big secret that his dad is keeping. I really enjoyed reading this book because of its twists and turns. Also it was very interesting to see how characters that Lu thought he knew show a totally different side of themselves outside of school or outside the track.

The Summer I Turned Pretty
by Jenny Han

This book is perfect for those who want to read about the juicy life of the main character, Isabel, or Belly Conklin. Belly and her family go to their family’s beach house every summer. For the summers before, she was only seen as a little sister. However, this year was different. She has a major glow up, and she still had the same crush, Conrad, whom was her family friend. However, Conrad showed no feelings for Belly, and was feeling more distant this year due to multiple things. Towards the end of the story, Belly dates another guy, Cam, while she still had a crush on Conrad. She eventually confronts to Conrad, which doesn’t end up well. This book makes readers feel as if they are experiencing the plot with Belly, and has a lot of relatable experiences. Overall, this book is really good and interesting, but is a little fast paced, and I had to read it twice to fully understand all of the plot.

Ghost by Jason Reynolds is a fiction book. It is about the main character, Ghost (his real name is Castle), and his life as a runner. When he joins the track team, Ghost makes many new friends, but he must make many sacrifices to fit in and control his anger. I think that this book is very entertaining and I would definitely recommend it. It makes you want to keep on reading until you finish the book. This is the first book in Track series by Jason Reynolds and I am planning to read the others too!
