Women's History

Celebrate Women!

March is Women's History Month but these books are great reads any time of the year. Check out a book from our new Helen L. Haber Memorial Women's Studies Collection.

Helen Haber, a former Tenafly resident, was a public-relations specialist for unions in New York City and Washington. She became an English teacher at the Dwight-Englewood School in 1969, and worked in adult education at Bergen Community College. With a life-long interest in women's rights, she also served on the Affirmative Action Advisory Committee of the Tenafly Public Schools in the 1960s/1970s.

This list is anchored by our Helen Haber Collection (identified by memorial book plates) but also includes historical fiction about women written by women. While all historical fiction takes place in the past, these books are about real people and events.  Become a witness to the lives of historic women the likes of the infamous Typhoid Mary and the celebrated Coco Chanel or the unsung first American Track Olympic athletes.
